Magic Tree is a decorative font inspired by the organic movement and playful structure of broccoli. Broccoli’s branching stems, abundant amount of florets, and natural curves informed every letterform, translating the vegetable’s bendy silhouette into typographic expression. The font balances softness and structure, mimicking how broccoli feels lively and fun. Inviting viewers to see familiar forms in a new way, the typeface is designed to feel imaginative and slightly magical. A wise person once said “Broccolli is not that serious.”
For the 3D Translation, I created a sculptural piece composed of chemically bonded acrylic. I explored the contrast between acrylic’s rigid, industrial nature and the soft, bulbous curves of the Magic Tree font. Through layered geometry, the piece demonstrates how curves can be suggested and constructed through stacked, angular forms rather than continuous surfaces.
Ideation and Inspiration
Magic Tree is another name for broccoli, and the source of this font’s inspiration! From the drawings, I sketched over certain forms to take inspiration
